P/E Gap List

Largest gaps first

The goal is to see where trailing P/E times forward earnings sits far from the current price. A gap of 10% or more above the price is a study buy read on this desk. It is not a recommendation and not a forecast. Take the price today, keep the P/E the stock already has, and multiply that by what it is expected to earn next. That product is the projected price. It is the current stock price, the trailing P/E from the last four reported quarters, and the future EPS. Trailing P/E times future EPS is the projected price per share.

How it is calculated: add the last four reported quarters to get trailing earnings. Divide the current price by that figure to get trailing P/E. Forward earnings are the Nasdaq consensus, times 4 when the estimate is a quarter. Implied price equals trailing P/E times forward earnings. The gap is that implied price minus the current price. Names with negative trailing earnings are left off. The list is the largest names in the S&P 500, Dow Jones, and Nasdaq-100, ranked by gap.
